Confluence : Malabar Collective
A living archive of a trade-born Islamic architectural tradition
The Mapping of the Malabar Masjids documents the geographic spread, architectural diversity, and current condition of historic mosques across North Malabar and the wider Malabar region. These mosques form a distinct vernacular tradition shaped by maritime trade, local craftsmanship, and centuries of coexistence.
Despite their cultural and architectural significance, many of these structures remain undocumented, unprotected, and vulnerable to alteration or loss. This mapping initiative aims to create a growing public record that supports research, conservation, and community awareness.

This map presents known historic mosques across the Malabar coast, highlighting both documented sites and those yet to be studied in detail. The map will continue to evolve as new research, documentation, and community inputs are added.
